MEET YOUR FARMER
Matt Bishop moved to Alaska in 2012 to start his career in Civil Engineering, and after only a few years of climbing the ladder, he realized that the 8-5 wasn't leading him where he wanted. Matt switched to freelance and started dreaming of forging ahead on his own and creating something out of nothing....and of course mushrooms fill that niche perfectly. His long-time hobby of cultivating mushrooms soon became much more and after a few years of saving, learning the ins-and-outs of mycology, and making a few key connections he can proudly say that Alaska Mushroom Connection is making a debut.
In 2023 he acquired a 40' shipping container and spent the summer building it out to properly grow mushrooms as an almost stand-alone unit. The buildout was completed to a point of operation, and Matt spent the winter (which happened to be a brutal one) testing, producing, and giving away small amounts of mushrooms to his Lazy Mountain community. The facility works wonderfully no matter what mother nature can whip up, and the process of mass cultivation has already begun; by May 2024 he expects to be harvesting hundreds of pounds of Black Pearl King Oyster, Shiitake, and Lions Mane on a weekly to semi-weekly basis.
